There are so many beliefs and religions out there it’s not even funny. It’s probably extremely confusing to read about so many different beliefs, talk to others about what religion they believe in, or even live within a family that has certain traditions or practices that you’re not even sure where they came from. So why are there so many different beliefs anyway? What makes Christianity any different from all the other religions and why is it important?
“For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.” -2 Peter 1:16
Peter states that following Christ has nothing to do with a following a myth, but how following Christ can be built from facts. Especially because he and the Church were eyewitnesses the whole time Jesus was here. Jesus is not just a made up story that we tell people so we can live good moral lives. Jesus is real. It’s a fact.
What happened when Jesus was here really happened. There’s evidence all over the place about this and there were so many eyewitness testimonies, that He couldn’t have been fake. What’s amazing about this isn’t just that Jesus was real when He was here, but that everything He did for us actually happened. The Bible doesn’t lie when it tells us that we can believe and trust in Jesus for forgiveness of all our past, present, and future sins.
No other religion has the same kind of support in terms of history and evidence that Christianity has. No other religious leader was actually God in human flesh (Mark 14:62). Christ not only died on the cross for us, but He rose again that proved His claim to be God (Romans 1:4, 1 Corinthians 15:3-8).
The Bible has never been contradicted and it never will be. Any other religion at some point breaks down and falls short. We see over and over within Scripture that it is never wrong about anything as it discusses topics like sin, what life is all about, how we should live life, how to love others, what justice is all about, or what Jesus did for us.
What You Can Do VS What Has Been Done
One of the most important ways that Christianity distinguishes itself from all other religions is that it’s about what has already been done for us instead of what we can do. All other beliefs at some point teach what you need to do in order to have things like peace, eternal happiness, a wealthy life, etc. What Christianity teaches is that everything has already been done for us through what Christ has done on the cross and by resurrecting from the dead.
All God calls us to do is to put our faith and trust in Jesus because what He did was enough.
Instead of us thinking we can earn our salvation, we learn that Jesus earned it for us. Instead of us thinking we have to put everything on our own shoulders in life, we learn that Jesus put everything on Himself when we died for us on the cross. Instead of thinking we deserve eternal life because of our good works, we learn we deserve hell because we’ll never be good enough and that’s why Jesus had to die for us.
This is not only what makes Christianity different from all other religions, but what makes Christianity the best and only choice for us. No other path will get us in a right relationship with God or bring ultimate satisfaction. All of this happens through the finished work of Jesus Christ.
