One thing that most people have in common is the inability to be patient. We might be waiting on someone or something, lose control of our emotions, or just simply demand things from others because we don’t want to have to wait. Regardless of whatever it is, the Bible says a lot about patience.
We don’t want to be patient because we don’t want control taken away from us. When we believe we have “rights” and should have control over something, we have forgotten our first love. We have forgotten the cross. We have forgotten Jesus.
When we are patient, we are declaring our allegiance to God Almighty who is in control (and who has every right to be) and praising Him for everything He has done for us through Christ.
It’s still a struggle daily to be patient (I know this too well), but the word of God states that there is great understanding to the one who is patient. What else does scripture say?
Here is what the bible has to say with scripture on patience:
Romans 12:12 – Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
James 5:7-8 – Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains. You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.
Psalm 27:14 – Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!
Micah 7:7 – But as for me, I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me.
Psalm 40:1-2 – I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.
Proverbs 19:11 – Good sense makes one slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense.
Proverbs 12:16 – The vexation of a fool is known at once, but the prudent ignores an insult.
Proverbs 14:29 – Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly.
