It’s going to happen. For some it will hit like bricks and for others it couldn’t have come soon enough, but guaranteed . . . Jesus Christ will return and heaven and earth will once again be in agreement.
We don’t like to talk about judgment these days. Today, bad behavior usually gets a book deal and with the right public relations director, a bad image can be spun into something manageable and with passing outrage as a weary public becomes more and more desensitized.
I don’t like it any more than you do. Bad doesn’t always get what it deserves and good doesn’t always amount to success.
This will end when Jesus returns.
Can you picture this?
There will be no more instances of the name of Jesus being taken in vain. Mocking of Christ in the public square will cease. Antagonism, persecution and murder of his followers will no longer exist.
A case for Christ will not have to be made. The evidence will be on full display and every human knee from the beginning to that day will bow.
On this day, many will come to find out money, reputation, good works and moral behavior didn’t save them.
The only ticket into an eternal dwelling with Christ will be the decision to receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
As a Christian, we will be ecstatic that we were given this relationship in a display of God’s mercy on us.
There will be anguish and sorrow for others that did not.
But every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
How are you living today? Are you living in light of this promise?
Instead of focusing on the negative (and I agree, there is certainly a lot of negative to focus on), would you ask the Lord to help you see with this eternal perspective and take comfort and confidence that we will see this day? And would you ask the Lord to give you compassion for people to share this good news about Jesus Christ so that others would also share in the joy of His return?
For it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” – Romans 14:11
“So that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth.” – Philippians 2:10
“But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.” – Philippians 3:20-21
“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.” – 2 Peter 3:10
“Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay everyone for what he has done.” – Revelation 22:12
