Our world and culture is always going to have new things that come up and more than likely, they will be in defiance of Jesus. As believers we should not be surprised by this since Jesus was crucified to begin with, but we need to remember that He rose again. We need to remember that Jesus won.
At my church, 121 Community Church, we sing a song called “Turn Your Eyes (Jesus Won)” which mixes in a popular hymn followed by some powerful lyrics in regards to how Jesus won.
We fix our eyes in faith not by sight, Our God is alive, Jesus won.
We, as followers of Jesus, need to remind ourselves daily that we are not of this world, we have a new identity, and that we live by faith – not by sight. While we may see the world around us crumbling, our faith is in the One who will never crumble.
Whether it’s abortion, same sex marriage, pluralism, homosexuality, adultery, drunkenness, or anything at all that goes against God’s Word, remember that we are disciples of Jesus. We are called to love because He first loved us (1 John 4:19), not waver in our faith, and share the Gospel, all while remembering…Jesus already won.
Here is what the Bible has to say with scripture on victory:
1 Corinthians 15:57-58 – But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.
John 16:33 – I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.
1 John 5:4 – For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.
Romans 16:20 – The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
Psalm 60:12 – With God we shall do valiantly; it is he who will tread down our foes.
1 John 4:4 – Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
Romans 8:37-39 – No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
1 Corinthians 15:54 – When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”
Proverbs 21:30-31 – No wisdom, no understanding, no counsel can avail against the Lord. The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the Lord.
Romans 6:14 – For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
Proverbs 11:14 – For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers.
What does the Bible have to say about other topics?
Mike, thank you for this wise word. As Christians, we have God’s Word to guide us into spiritual truths others might not yet know. As poets and writers, we have the awesome opportunity to influence the whole world for Christ! To encourage other members of our Christian Poets & Writers group on Facebook to read about, pray about, and write about these things in an accurate and loving manner, I’ll highlight your post on the Christian Poets & Writers blog – http://www.christianpoetsandwriters.com. God bless you and your good work in Jesus’ Name.
Thanks so much Mary, appreciate the encouragement!!
