It’s Monday morning in America . . . did you get the recommended 8-9 hours of sleep last night, pop up at 5:30 a.m., give a high-five to the morning and whistle the tune of “It’s going to be a great day”? Did you have a two-hour “quiet time”? Are you confident the people and the events you expect to encounter will cooperate with you harmoniously and comply with your neatly arranged schedule?
If so, more power to you. If not, it’s ok and I think I’d rather hang out with you (I can relate).
I’ve seen many days that haven’t gone according to plan. Sometimes this gets coupled with other concerns like health of family and friends, financial decisions, and pressing matters at work.
If you haven’t made it out the door with your schedule still in tact and you are feeling the weight of problems that didn’t disappear with a new morning, take comfort . . . we aren’t designed to keep everything in check.
We are designed to need God, and the great news is He wants us on His schedule.
God Will Meet Us Anytime
We can bring everything to God and have assurance of His care for us.
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:6-7
Admitting we don’t have all the answers or actions goes a long way in God’s economy. I’ve seen my toddler try to wrestle something out of my hand and it reminds me of how funny it must look to God as I try to wrestle the day from him with what I think I know.
God Wants Us To Know Peace Is Only Found In Him
True rest does not come from taking a vacation, visiting the spa or catching up on sleep. True rest comes from God.
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30
Is your soul weary today? Instead of trying to satiate it today with exercise, entertainment or a jumbo Dr. Pepper, ask God to speak to bring rest to your soul.
God Gives Us What We Need To Comply With His Schedule
Having recognized your need for God today and asking Him to unburden your soul, it’s still easy to fall into the trap of moving on without including Him. When facing either familiar or unfamiliar situations, our tendency is to rely on what we know. Take the risk of believing God will supply all that is needed for any scenario. He promises us His provision in all matters.
- God says all things are possible in Him. Luke 18:27
- He also says we can do all things in His strength. Philippians 4:13
- And, He promises to supply all our needs. Philippians 4:19
As you start the week, the best thing we can do is admit we are not able to handle all of life’s demands. Be encouraged that God is.
“And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.” – 2 Corinthians 9:8
It’s Monday morning in America . . . it’s not too late to invite the peace of God into your life today.
