We live in a day where the very thought of truth is questioned. More people are confused than ever, desperately seeking out what truth is and what’s the meaning of life. In the craziness of our culture fighting constantly about things like tolerance, where in the world are we to turn? What does the Bible say?
Then Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world-to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” – John 18:37-38
This is a great example for us to pay attention to. Even Pilate in the midst of all of this was asking Jesus what truth is. We have the ability to look back on Scripture and think something like, “Pilate had no idea that he was speaking to the King of Kings, the truth,” but we must be careful to not do the same thing and miss truth when it’s just as obvious to us as well. Most of us fail to recognize truth’s identity.
Jesus Is Truth
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” – John 14:6
For those of us who follow Him, we are to share the Gospel (truth) to the world while constantly loving others because He first loved us (1 John 4:19).
“Christianity is not true because it works; it is not true because it feels right; it is not true because it is “my truth.” It is true because it is anchored in the person of Christ.” – Os Guinness
What we forget is that there is such a thing as truth. It doesn’t flex and change according to the latest trends in our culture. Truth is truth even if everyone is against it just like how a lie is a lie even if everyone says it’s true. Otherwise, it’s just chaos.
Scripture Must Be The Authority
Scripture must be the authority and truth in our lives. We have got to be on guard for the times that arise of people proclaiming anything other than truth. Especially, when our culture teaches there’s no real truth. Here are some common lies that you may face today that need to be countered with the real truth according to the Bible:
- There are multiple ways to God.
- Truth is whatever you feel is right.
- Even if the Bible says that’s sin, it’s an old book not current with today’s culture so it can’t be true.
- Surely there’s no such thing as hell.
- Jesus was a great guy, just not God.
- Truth changes as time goes on.
Let’s remember as followers of Christ that we are His ambassadors. We represent Jesus Christ, who is truth. Be refreshed and reminded today that by the power of the Holy Spirit, you can confidently walk in truth and share it with others. They don’t have to agree and we can’t change hearts, but we can spread the true message of the Gospel and pray for people to stop buying into lies, and to be rescued, walking in the freedom of truth.

Great stuff – totally agree. You may also be interested in the book Four Views on Salvation, which has arguments from four theologians with their views on salvation, including Alister McGrath. Dense read, but worth it.
Awesome Jason, thanks so much for the encouragement and the reference. Will check it out!
