“Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.” John 13:14-17
Jesus came to serve, not to be served. He considered others more significant than himself. He demonstrated this love on the night of the last supper. As he spent time with his disciples, Jesus knelt to the ground and washed the dirt off of his disciples feet. He put his hands into the mess of his friends’ lives and began washing.
And then he tells his disciples, he tells us, “Do what I did.” He is our example for how to love one another. He is our example for how to serve and think more highly of others than ourselves.
I hope that you find encouragement in these verses today. Let’s continue to love each other and serve as Jesus has served us.
Prayer this week: that you would be encouraged and filled with the joy of Christ to love each other as He has loved us, and do as He did.
I love you all. Press on!
