“And because of him [God] you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, ‘Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.” – 1 Corinthians 1:30-31
I have found that I am in regular need of the reminder that my life in Christ is not something I could even come close to earning. I so often depend on myself to get something done, which makes is incredibly easy to think that I have done something in “getting salvation done.” But what 1 Corinthians 1 says is that without Christ, I would not have even had the wisdom to understand the things of God, much less know how to “get them done”.
Without God’s involvement in our lives, we are helpless. But, God who is rich in mercy made a way – Jesus Christ! Because of God’s love, he made Jesus our wisdom to understand Truth, our righteousness to stand before God, our sanctification to continually transform us to His likeness and our final redemption from this world into His.
Jesus is our everything. Jesus is our life. Without Him, we have nothing. How could I boast in anything but Jesus Christ?! How could I not live in humble service to the One who paid it all on my behalf?!
Prayer this week: that we would be in awe of the One who became and gave us everything we need for life with God. May we boast in the Lord this week.
