“But you will receive power then the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” – Acts 1:8
Nearly 2000 years ago, Jesus gave His church this commission. This small group of men, women and families was given the task of going into their surrounding communities and the nations with the good news of Jesus Christ. This mission would by no means be easy. Many of those sent with this mission would face great persecution, even death. Jesus’ command would call them to a radically new and different life than they had lived before.
But the joy and adventure of following Christ would prove to be well worth it. As this early church held on loosely with their lives, with the power of the Holy Spirit in them, the course of history would be changed. Our lives today are different because this early church said “Yes” to the mission of Jesus Christ.
For our church, the same words that Jesus spoke to that first church are spoken to us today. Today, the mission is the same: love God, love each other, engage the lost. You and I, the church, are sent by Jesus to be His witnesses to DFW, to the nation and to the world. It will not always be easy. But with the power of the Holy Spirit of God working in us, we have all that we need to run this race that Jesus has set out for us. And if we too will say “Yes” and commit to following His lead, we will get the privilege of being a part of God’s amazing and satisfying work. So…
Let’s run!
My prayer for us this week: that we would be in tune with the Holy Spirt in us, and by His power run the race set out for us. And like this early church, that God would use our church to change the course of history for His glory.
I love you guys. Press on!
