Sometimes it’s hard to be confident as a follower of Jesus. Whether it’s our salvation, what God has called us to do, or if we are needing to love someone who is being difficult, sometimes we start to doubt and lose our confidence. Other times we might be called cocky or told that we don’t know everything, which might cause us to doubt even more.
There is Good News though for the follower of Jesus and we all need this reminder today.
Let’s remember what we are being confident about. Let’s remember who we are being confident about.
Our confidence is in what the Bible says and what Jesus has done for us. The confidence is not in ourselves. It’s one thing to be confident in ourselves and treat people beneath us (which is obviously sin for the Christian), but it’s another thing to place confidence in Jesus and what He actually did for us. On top of that, He calls us to continuously trust Him as we follow Him and that He is in control and at work.
So then….
- Why can we be confident as followers of Jesus that we are going to heaven?
- Why can we be confident that God is at work?
- Why can we be confident that Jesus is better than anything else?
- Why can we be confident of what is sin and what is holy?
- Why can we be confident of having all the answers that are found in the Bible?
Everything points to Jesus and He is at the center of everything that we do. This includes the fact that the Bible is 100% truth and is God’s Word (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
Our confidence is in what the Bible says and what Jesus has done.
Be reminded today that you can be confident as you continue to follow Jesus that God is at work and yes, you are saved. Not because of your own self confidence, but because of what the Bible says and what Jesus has done.
Here is what the Bible has to say with scripture on confidence:
Proverbs 3:26 – For the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.
Hebrews 13:6 – So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”
Psalm 27:3 – Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident.
Psalm 23:4 – Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
1 John 5:14 – And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.
1 John 4:16-17 – So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world.
2 Corinthians 3:4-5 – Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God. Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God.
1 John 2:28 – And now, little children, abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not shrink from him in shame at his coming.
Philippians 1:6 – And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 4:16 – Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
