Death is not one of those subjects that everyone just loves to talk about. Typically, most of us aren’t walking around saying, “Hey, want to talk about some death today?” I can’t speak for everyone because I am sure there is someone out there doing that right now, however it’s a tough or scary topic for most of us. Luckily, for those of us who are followers of Christ, death doesn’t have to be scary. In fact, death isn’t even the end of the road for us (followers of Christ) and we can look to the Bible to define what it is really all about.
I don’t want to speak out of line and act like there isn’t a time to grieve the loss of a loved one. Jesus even wept. There is absolutely nothing wrong with grieving the death of a loved one as a follower of Christ. We as the Church should weep with those who weep and have great empathy for others. The greatness of what God tells us about death is the fact that it’s not the end. I believe that the truth that is found in the Bible on death and what Jesus has done for us is what brings us through that grieving process. It’s where we can look to for hope. It’s who we can look to for hope.
Jesus is our hope. Jesus defeated death. Those who follow Jesus will never die, but live on for eternity. Jesus paid the price for our past, present, and future sins and for those who follow Him, immediately are rescued forever. Will we die in our physical bodies? Absolutely because we are sinful and this world is sinful, but we must remember, we are not yet home. When we physically die here, we will be with Jesus…for all eternity. That my friends should bring serious comfort to you.
Let’s let the Word of God do the rest of the talking for me at this point. My prayer for you is that you would be encouraged on what God teaches us about death and what Jesus has done. Many people will relate to this in various ways so please let the Bible speak to you now.
Let’s look and see what the Bible has to say with Scripture on Death:
1 Corinthians 6:14 – And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by His power.
