Scripture on Provision

Scripture on Provision

What comes to mind for you when you think about provision? Food? Money? Clothing? What about Peace? Strength? Wisdom? Whatever it is, chances are we go throughout our day asking or wishing we had something. We’re often searching for something to be provided for us that we need that day, but how often are we going to our ultimate Provider?

I don’t know about you but I can go the whole day getting the things I need and hoping for the things I don’t have….all without God being a part of my day. I’ll just get my todo list done or go to the store to go get food or lean on my own understanding to share wisdom with our friends or with our children, but when I do that I’m being my own provider, when the Bible would teach the opposite.

We think we can provide for ourselves and when we don’t have something, we’ll just “muster up the courage” to go get it, but living like that is exhausting and we’ll never be satisfied.

The Bible teaches that God supplies every single one of our needs. It teaches of a God who not only provides food, clothing, wisdom, strength, etc. over and over again to His people, but provides life. Life is only truly found in Jesus.

We’ll come up short looking for life in all the wrong places because it’s only found in Jesus.

He is all that we need. He satisfies the soul more than anything. He is our provider.

Remind yourself of the Gospel today and what Jesus has done for you. Remember He provides for your every need and whatever you’re going through today…you can look to Him for guidance and wisdom and the strength to go through whatever He’s leading you through. Be encouraged that our provider loves us more than we’ll ever be able to comprehend. If you’re ever in doubt, just look to the cross.

Here is what the Bible has to say with scripture on provision:

Philippians 4:19 – And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Psalm 23:1 – The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Joel 2:23 – Be glad, O children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God, for he has given the early rain for your vindication; he has poured down for you abundant rain, the early and the latter rain, as before.

Psalm 111:5 – He provides food for those who fear him; he remembers his covenant forever.

Jeremiah 29:11 – For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Psalm 132:15 – I will abundantly bless her provisions; I will satisfy her poor with bread.

Matthew 6:26 – Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

Hebrews 13:5 – Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Proverbs 3:5 – Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.

Acts 14:17 – Yet he did not leave himself without witness, for he did good by giving you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and gladness.

Matthew 7:9-11 – Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

2 Corinthians 9:8 – And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.

I think there are many Christians that get so busy during the day that they don’t find time to go to Lord for provisions. I have made it a point to have an online devotional as my home page, so when I start of Chrome it is the first website I see. I still at times get busy and forget to ask for provision. A work in process.
