I don’t know about you but I know I don’t think about eternity enough. It’s so easy to just look down on the things right in front of us and be consumed with everything going in our lives, that we never look up and think about eternal things.
But when it comes down to it, for those who follow Jesus, we are told we are forgiven…forever. For all of our past, present, and future sins, and that we will have eternal life with God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and the church. It’s incredible to think that this really is going to happen. Jesus really is going to return. Sin really will be no more, and death and satan really will be defeated.
When we dwell on eternal things, our perspective on life here starts to change. We don’t get so consumed with our day to day lives, but rather think about how we are impacting eternity with the way we are living today. We don’t have to get anxious or worried, because God knows exactly what is going to happen and we’ll be with Him forever anyway.
The war is already over. Be encouraged in the midst of your daily battles, Jesus really has already won. We have Victory through Christ.
Here is what the Bible has to say with scripture on eternal life:
1 John 2:17 – And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.
Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 3:16-17 – For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
1 John 5:11-12 – And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
John 11:25-26 – Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
John 3:36 – Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
Titus 3:4-7 – But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
John 10:27-29 – My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.
John 17:3 – And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
John 5:24 – Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
