Common Spiritual Attacks With Scripture to Respond

I’m sure you’ve felt it before, but there are always attacks going on towards all of us including Christians. The only difference is the nonbeliever may not realize it, while the follower of Jesus can clearly see from scripture that the enemy is always going after us.

Ephesians 6:10 specifically talks about the armor of God and also the sword of the spirit. There’s so many pieces of armor we can put on (in our defense) and then we only have ONE weapon (the sword aka the Bible). This is our weapon against any attacks that come our way. It’s amazing how God’s Word has an answer for everything and sometimes it just takes time to open up the Bible and read it.

Don’t forget Jesus has was often attacked by the enemy and would respond with – scripture.

How many times do you struggle or complain that there is no answer and you haven’t even opened up the Bible?

Well, here are some common spiritual attacks and what Scripture says about them:

Pride

Proverbs 11:2 – When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.

Lust

Proverbs 5:15 – Drink water from your own cistern, running water from your own well.

Psalm 101:3 – I will set before my eyes no vile thing.

2 Timothy 2:22 – Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

Worry

Philippians 4:6-7 – Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Discouragement

Psalm 3:3 – But you are a shield around me, O Lord; you bestow glory on me and life up my head.

Fear

Isaiah 41:10 – So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Giving/Hoarding

Luke 6:38 – Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

Health

3 John 2 – Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.

Self-Doubt

Philippians 1:6 – Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Temptation

1 Corinthians 10:13 – No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

Anger

Ephesians 4:26-27 – “In your anger do not sin”. Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.

Distractions

Proverbs 4:25-26 – Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you. Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm.

Stubbornness

1 Peter 5:6 – Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.

Guilt

Romans 8:1-2 – Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.

Envy/Jealousy

1 Corinthians 13:4 – Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

Earthly Mindset

Colossians 3:2 – Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

Shame

Psalm 34:5 – Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.

Let’s take up the sword of the spirit which is the word of God and use it as our weapon when necessary while protecting ourselves at the same time. Let’s stay submerged in the word of God at all times for all occasions in order to experience the fullness of God in everything we do.

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work” – 2 Timothy 3:16-17

This is so helpful. Thank you for exposing some of the ways we will encounter spiritual attacks. I don’t think the subject of spiritual warfare is on the radar of Christian teens and many who lead them in the church. So, I wrote a fictional series that brings to light the works of the enemy while pointing to the power of our great God.
I’m glad you shared this on Christian Poets & Writers.
God Bless you and yours!
