Responding To Lies With The Truth

Responding to Lies with the Truth

The Bible has strong language for the battles we face and the war we are in with battling sin and our enemy. Especially when it comes to our minds. It’s not enough to simply ignore the lies that come in or to try to stop thinking about them, but we have to respond to lies with the truth from God’s Word.

We must continue to renew our minds and discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Here’s different things you may hear whether it be from the enemy, the enemy using someone, or even what you may hear from yourself and how to respond to these lies with the truth:

No one could understand how hopeless I feel right now. I’ve so overwhelmed.

Isaiah 40:28-29 – Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.

Are you really saved? How can you be sure?

1 John 5:11-13 – And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.

There’s no reason to tell anyone about your sin.

James 5:16 – Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.

The Bible doesn’t really say Jesus is God.

John 1:1-5 – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Your life has no value and no purpose.

Psalm 139:13-14 – For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.

I’m addicted and there’s no way out regardless of how much I try.

John 8:31-32 – So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

I’ve believed in God since I was born. I really don’t need to know or believe in Jesus.

James 2:19 – You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder!

You don’t have to forgive people, especially if they have hurt you.

Matthew 6:14-15 – For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

If I had more money, my life would be easier.

Proverbs 15:16 – Better is a little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble with it.

I don’t trust the Bible since men made it up.

2 Peter 1:20-21 – Knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

Looking at people lustfully or at things online is OK if I don’t really do anything.

Psalm 101:3 – I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me.

Why should I help someone when they can help themselves?

John 13:14 – If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.

You don’t have to really memorize scripture. It’s not that important.

Psalm 119:11 – I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

You don’t really have to be generous or take giving seriously.

2 Corinthians 9:6-7 – The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

What’s the point of doing these things for The Lord, it’s not worth it.

1 Corinthians 15:55-58 – O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

Is there really anything to look forward to in the end?

Revelation 21:4-5 – He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
