What Easter Means For You And Me

What Easter Means for You and Me

Over the years I’ve met with many people and have also received tons of emails and comments about their situations or struggles. Some are facing decisions about their marriage, parenting, what to do for their careers, and even some considering suicide at times. You can imagine as a pastor, you never know what’s going to happen when you’re getting to know someone and you hear of their situation. I’m honored every time I get to do that and get a chance to encourage someone and pray with them, and there’s something in common that seems to come up more and more with so many people…

Many believe that their life has no value, they have no purpose, and they have no self worth. Now we wouldn’t always describe it just like that, but at the end of the day, it comes down to that…no value, no purpose, worthless.

While I can’t act immune to thinking the same thoughts at times myself, my heart breaks when I’m sitting across the table from someone else who genuinely believes they have no value. The good news is that all of that is a lie. You do have value. You do have a purpose. You are very much worth something to someone, and Easter proves that.

Easter isn’t normally thought of in that regard. It’s typically thought of things like an easter bunny, eggs, bright colors, family, a church service, and maybe sometimes Jesus. Here’s why Easter is so important and what it means for you and me.

Jesus Is King

Easter reminds us that Jesus is King and everything is about Him. When you think of what God did by sending His One and only Son to earth, who lived a perfect life, died on the cross (paying the penalty for all our past, present, and future sins), and then rose again from the dead defeating death and sin in victory…what else is there to say?!?! It’s amazing and Jesus is amazing.

There are many who still don’t believe, but let’s not forget…this man rose from the dead. Without the resurrection, none of this matters, but with the resurrection happening, all of this matters. He really did rise from the dead, He really did defeat death, He really is King.

Easter proves Jesus is King and that your life has value and a purpose.

Your Life Has Value And Purpose

Why did Jesus do all of this? Why would He go through agonizing pain and suffering?

God sent His Son…for you.

God has shown you that your life has tremendous value because of Jesus. You have been given an amazing purpose because of Jesus. Your worth is based on how God sees you through Jesus, not what you or anyone thinks of yourself.

God certainly receives all the glory and honor for all of this and that is of upmost importance, but we often forget that Jesus went through everything He went through so that we might come to repentance and not perish (2 Peter 3:9). He cares deeply for you and for me. He literally died for you and rose from the dead for you…I’d say that makes you pretty valuable and important. And for those who follow Jesus, God sees you as His child.

Think about that, you’re a son or daughter of the King.

Value? Yes

Purpose? Absolutely

Worth? You tell me after remembering what Jesus did for you.

This is what Easter means for you and me.

It means God is glorious, Jesus is King, and our lives have value, purpose, and worth, because we are children of God and Jesus has done everything for us.
