Scripture on The Future

Scripture on the Future

Many people right now are thinking about the future. Our world seems to be falling apart, people are dying, viruses are spreading, racial injustice is taking place, and whatever this season seems to be bringing, we can be sure that we will face another season in the future as well.

So what do we do with that? What do we do with a broken world with broken people? Do we just give up? Where do we turn to for hope?

Today let this be a simple reminder to turn to what we know is true, the Bible. We know it to be true not just because it says so itself (2 Timothy 3:16-17), but because God is the author of it. If God, who is perfect, wrote a book, which is perfect, then we can turn to Him (and the Bible) to help guide us all seasons.

Here is what the Bible has to say with scripture on the future:

1 Corinthians 2:9-10 – But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”—these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.

Philippians 3:20-21 – But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.

1 Corinthians 15:51-52 – Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.

1 John 3:2 – Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.

Proverbs 19:21 – Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.

Isaiah 55:8-9 – For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Philippians 1:6 – And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

Jeremiah 29:11 – For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Psalm 33:11 – The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations.

James 4:13-15 – Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.”
