Repentance is not really a popular word that most of us enjoy. It’s really not even in our vocabulary as we go about in our day to day conversions. How many times do you hear people in the office talking about repenting?
Yet in the Bible, repentance is found over and over again. God puts a high value on repentance and for good reason. As we become followers of Jesus, we realize repentance is very important. Repentance isn’t just a matter of “being sorry” for our sins, but rather an action. An action to turn away from the way we used to live and turn towards Christ, a new way to live.
For those who follow Jesus, repentance is turning away from sin and turning towards Christ. By our choice to repent or not, we demonstrate what we really believe about sin. If we turn away from sin, we are truly repentant and are wanting to glorify God. If we embrace sin, we are saying no to repentance and saying yes to sin, a decision that will never glorify God.
Be encouraged today by the power of the Holy Spirit you have everything you need to repent from your sins. Choosing to turn away from your sin and turning towards Christ will not only glorify God, but will give you more freedom and satisfaction in your life than any “type of sin” could give you.
Here is what the Bible has to say with scripture on repentance:
